Being surrounded by nature with the view of a lake is a great remedy. Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park offers a peaceful escape with its serene atmosphere and cool breeze.

Whenever I think of the Twin Lakes, I’m reminded of the road trips going uphill. Despite the bumpy ride, I loved seeing the views of the trees and the island of Cebu along the way. It felt like a quick family getaway to relax and enjoy the area near the lake.

Of all the times I’ve been there, the trip that stood out the most was in 2016. Although it was a long time ago, that short adventure has stayed with me because it was when I decided to trek around the area to see Lake Danao.

At first, I felt hesitant to take the trekking route because I had always wanted to ride the boat. However, through my mom’s insistence, I decided to take the longer route on foot instead. I soon realized that this journey was just as enjoyable.

Going to Lake Danao

Trekking through the area surprisingly felt therapeutic because it made me feel like I was truly in the moment. There was no rush, and I had the chance to immerse myself in nature, observing the small details of my surroundings.

It pushed me out of my comfort zone and reminded me of the importance of staying active while on vacation. While moving, I got to see Lake Balinsasayao from a different angle. It was also peaceful to gaze at the freshwater lake and the boats moving nearby.

The journey was tiring but worth it when I reached the view of Danao Lake and the hills surrounding it. That’s when I realized that being in a park far away from urban areas is the remedy for the soul.

Appreciating the sound of the birds and the wind brushing against the trees is what stood out the most to me. Seeing the second lake for the first time gave me a better perspective on always exploring more of the area.

Returning to Lake Balinsasayao

The trek back to the area was the same. It was fun to have one more round of adventure before taking a well-deserved break.

Even though it’s been a while since I was there, it remains a memorable experience. It felt like a starting point for my interest in trekking and even hiking more. I was truly grateful for this type of adventure.

Tips for Preparation

Before heading to Twin Lakes, a little preparation goes a long way for a smooth and enjoyable experience. Here are a few tips to help you get ready:

Always check the weather forecast before visiting to avoid any surprises. Rainy weather could make hiking trails slippery or affect visibility. Additionally, confirm the park's operating hours to ensure you have enough time to explore and relax.

  • Entrance fees: The park typically charges an entrance fee, so have cash on hand.

  • Boat rental costs: If you wish to explore the lakes by boat, there will be an added expense.

  • Guide fees: Hiring a local guide can enhance your experience, but it’s always good to ask about guide fees in advance.

3. Respect the Environment

Be sure to follow Leave No Trace principles to help preserve the park for future visitors. This includes cleaning up after yourself, avoiding littering, and staying on designated trails to protect the wildlife and plant life.
